In their first hitout of the year, in what was officially billed as 'match simulation', a near-full strength Melbourne easily accounted for an undermanned St Kilda. The Saints got the opening goal within 20 seconds, but just two more before the end of the first two 25 minute periods.

At the conclusion of the first four periods the game unofficially continued with a mix of AFL and VFL listed players. The full match was intended to be played over eight periods but was called off at the end of the seventh with Melbourne ahead 20.16.136 to 15.17.107.

Best were Petracca, Oliver and Hunter.
