Numbers

Playing numbers were first worn by VFL players in the 1912 season. Melbourne has fielded players in every number up to 54, as well as 56 to 59 and one game of number 67.

The highest number ever worn was number 67 by Jeff Garlett in Round 10, 2017. This was a one off for a cause, so the highest number permanently assigned to a player in a senior game was number 59 by Andrew Dale in Round 16, 1986.
