Nickname "Zebra", Zantuck played five games for North Melbourne from 1974, before moving to South Melbourne for a further 56 over four years.

Zantuck joined Melbourne in 1981 but was restricted to seven games in his first year by hamstring injuries. He became a regular in 1982 with 16 games, and only missed one match in 1983. In 1984 he dropped back to 14 games, and was involved in a fiery bust-up with coach Ron Barassi at 3/4 time of Round 14. It was later revealed that the argument started after Zantuck looked directly at Barassi while the coach was berating his team for not looking at him.

He was a regular again in 1985 before drifting out of the side in 1986, retiring after just nine games. He is one of the few VFL/AFL players to have appeared in over 100 senior and Reserves games during his career.

In 1987 Zantuck served as a specialist coach, returning as Chairman of Selectors and in a coaching role in 1990. He remained with the club until the end of 1991 and coached St Bernards in 1996.

His son Ty played AFL football for Richmond and Essendon.
