Biggest win against West Coast
Returning to Docklands six days after their record capitulation against St Kilda, Melbourne played their first home game at the venue since 2016. Opponents West Coast were late in a wooden spoon season, with only one win and a team ravaged by injury. The Demons were the better side, but struggled to put the Eagles away early. They were 21 points up at half time after the Eagles kicked two goals later in the second quarter, before Melbourne blew the game away with a 10 goal third term. They went on to the club's biggest ever win against the Eagles.
Best were Gawn, Viney, and Pickett. Harry Sharp replaced Jake Melksham in the third quarter. Christian Salem was fined $1000 for tripping.
Two days later, coach Goodwin was sacked after a disappointing season. No Melbourne coach had ever won by more in his last game.
