Recommended to the Demons by Premier Henry Bolte, Wise had a horror debut when he ran into Carl Ditterich, and played just three games in his first season.
Despite missing a practice game because he was fruit picking and earning the wrath of Norm Smith in 1964, he played most of the year as a much improved solo ruckman and retained his spot right through to the Grand Final.
After just two more seasons - including one match in 1966 - he retired and moved to Tasmania to play and coach. He had also been pursued by VFA side Waverley and a number of country clubs. Wise played in a premiership with Launceston and later captain/coached Golden Point.
