Melbourne had suffered two 10 goal losses in a row, but for the second time in 2014 they pushed the finals challenging Port Adelaide to the last few minutes of the game. In Round 11 Port were flying at the top of the ladder and Melbourne beat them, but by the time they met seven weeks later the Power were struggling.

Midway through the second quarter Port looked to be back in form, opening up a lead of over five goals before Melbourne struck back. The Demons kicked six goals in a row to take the lead midway through the third quarter, but they Port got back in front shortly before three quarter time.

Neither side kicked a goal until the 15 minute mark of the last quarter, but after Port booted the first major Melbourne struck back with two and held the lead until the dying minutes when Jay Schultz converted a set shot from a difficult angle to win the game for Port.

Best were Tyson, Jamar and N. Jones. Dean Kent replaced Aidan Riley in the third quarter.
