The Demons won their second game of the year, improving to 2-5 in the Anzac Day eve game. They held a three goal lead in the first quarter before two late Richmond goals closed the margin, and the gap was still under a goal at half time. Melbourne won the game in the third term, kicking six goals to one. The first goal of the final term opened a 41 point lead before Richmond kicked the last four to make the margin more respectable.
Substitute Harry Sharp replaced Koltyn Tholstrup in the third quarter.
Max Gawn won his third Checker Hughes Medal for Best on Ground in this fixture.
