Rejected by North Melbourne after one 1977 Reserves game, 'Salty' Parish returned to Yarrawonga. He rejoined VFL ranks in 1980 with Fitzroy, playing 87 games him as a tough ruck-rover and utility. Parish then switched to the Demons halfway through 1985 in a deal that saw Demons Kelly O'Donnell join the Lions.

Parish played out the rest of the season before his career ended. He returned to Yarrawonga and won their best and fairest award in 1986 and 1987 - having previously won it three times between 1977 and 1979 before joining Fitzroy.

In 1990 he coached a Riverina representative side.

Parish passed away from cancer in 1998 aged 42.
