Retiring from VFL football after one Reserves game with North Melbourne in 1977, 'Salty' Parish returned to Yarrawonga. He rejoined VFL ranks in 1980 with Fitzroy, playing 87 games him as a tough ruck-rover and utility. Parish then switched to the Demons halfway through 1985 when squeezed out by salary cap concerns. He was allowed to join Melbourne as payment for the letting Kelly O'Donnell join the Lions earlier in the season.

Parish played out the rest of the season before his VFL career ended. He returned to Yarrawonga in 1986 and won their best and fairest award in 1986 and 1987 - having previously won it three times between 1977 and 1979 before joining Fitzroy.

Back at Yarrawonga in 1986, captained a Victorian Country team against WA Country in 1987, coached Griffith 1989 to 1991 and a Riverina representative side in 1990. Played for Cobram from 1992 to 1995.

Parish passed away from cancer in 1998 aged 42.
