Melbourne won their fifth consecutive premiership. After an even first quarter, and a narrow Geelong lead at the long break, Melbourne recovered to take the lead at three quarter time. They had kept the visitors scoreless with the wind in the third term, and used it to their advantage in the last to run out winners.
