Defender who debuted in 1932 and played the rest of the season but managed just two matches the next year. Unable to secure a permanent spot in the Redleg lineup Roberts left Melbourne and moved to Essendon in 1937.

He played 12 games for the Bombers before signing for VFA side Prahran the next year. He spent two seasons at the Two Blues before enlisting in the army for World War II. Roberts was captured by the Japanese during the Battle of Ambon in 1942 and died of illness brought on by years of maltreatment in June 1945.
