Follower who first trained with the Demons in June 1944 as a 16-year-old. He returned in the 1945 pre-season, then as a Seconds player in 1946 before making his senior debut two years later. After five consecutive games in his rookie year he suffered a knee injury in a tour match which put him out for the rest of the year.

He didn't play a game in all of 1949 before returning for two in 1950. He was selected in VFL Seconds representative side, but didn't play another game after a knee injury in a tour match in July.

Lourey moved to Fitzroy in 1951 and played ten games there over the next two seasons, before being cleared to Prahran in June 1952. He had earlier been linked with Prahran in June 1950.

He returned to Melbourne to train in the 1953 pre-season, but did not play another VFL game and stayed at Prahran through 1954.
