The son and grandson of former Magpies, Mark and Murray, missed five months of the 2015 Under 18s season due to an ankle fracture. It was an aggravation of an injury he'd also suffered at the end of 2014, but didn't deter Melbourne from choosing the tall forward with their second selection of the draft.

Debuted late in 2016, but only added seven games in his second season and spent most the year developing with Casey in the VFL. Had a breakout first two finals in 2018 but couldn't carry the form into 2019, where he played a career high 11 games but struggled with increased pressure in the forward line before concussion and a hip injury prematurely ended his season after Round 16.

Weideman became the focal point of Melbourne's attack in 2020, kicking multiple goals in eight of his first nine games before only adding one in the last month of the season. His 2021 campaign was delayed due to stress fractures in the leg diagnosed pre-season, and by the time he returned Tom McDonald had re-established his position in the side. Weideman only appeared in five games in the middle of the season before losing his position.

Despite speculation that he would leave for to seek greater opportunity at another club, Weideman signed a two year contract extension to stay at Melbourne. He played a further 10 games in 2022, but despite a career best tally of four goals in the Round 3 win over Essendon, and two further tallies of three, he was unable to cement a place in the Melbourne forward line, even in the injury absence of Tom McDonald.

Weideman played in Casey's 2022 VFL premiership side. At the end of the season he was traded to Essendon for 2022 National Draft selection #37.
