Project player bought the club in 1990 where he played under 19's, before spending the first half of 1991 in the reserves before the club were forced to delist him midway through the year when changes to the immigration laws meant he couldn't be farmed out to a suburban club in the same fashion that Jim Stynes was when he became too old for the Under 19's.

Wore number 60 in 1990 and number 47 in 1991.

With Richmond and Sydney also interested in his services Melbourne tried to lure the Gaelic star back to the club in 1996 but he resisted a "lucrative offer" to return.

Played for Ireland in the 1998 and 2001 International Rules series against Australia. In 2010 he coached Ireland.
