Melbourne went to Canberra as red hot favourites, but were surprised by the Giants kicking a goal seconds after the start. By quarter time the visitors were comfortably ahead, led by a virtuoso performance by captain Kate Hore, who had three goals on the board by the first break.

The Giants only kicked one more goal for the game, and despite keeping Melbourne to one in the third quarter they were unable to last the distance and conceded 7.2 to a point in the fourth quarter, allowing Melbourne their second-biggest score in the competition to date. Paxy Paxman was a late withdrawal (quad), replaced by Charlotte Wilson.

Best were Hore, Lampard and Hanks.
