Forward/midfielder drafted with Melbourne's first selection in the third AFLW draft. She had been a 2017 All-Australian, and was named in a 2018 Academy squad the next year.

Played every game for her first two seasons, before a breakout 2021 campaign where she won the league's Rising Star award. In 2022 she topped Melbourne's tally in the AFLW B&F award and finished equal third in the Best and Fairest. Hanks played every game in Melbourne's 2022 spring season premiership campaign, and was again one of her side's most important midfielders.

2023 was another successful year, as Hanks proved one of the best midfielders in the competition, again played every game, and was joint Best and Fairest winner. Hanks signed a four year contract extension at the end of the season. After a slow start to 2024 in an injury-hit midfielder, Hanks recovered to finish second in the Best and Fairest.
