Western Bulldogs win by 16 points
1 - Dom Tyson
As part of the Field of Women event for the Breast Cancer Network of Australia, the Demons wore a special pink jumper for the match - and the attendance of the match was boosted by 15,000 people participating in the event before the match.
Despite being left 2-6 for the season, and losing to one of the two teams they had managed to beat in 2013, Melbourne's 2014 revival continued as they stuck with the Bulldogs all night before being overrun in the last few minutes.
The Demons won most of the key stats, but their inside 50 advantage was cancelled out by the Dogs taking their chances better. Even after forward Tom Williams was injured and seemingly put out of the game he returned to kick three goals.
With an advantage to the Bulldogs of two points at half-time of a scrappy game dominated by clearances the two sides opened up in the third quarter, and Melbourne took the lead by kicking five goals to four. They conceded the first goal of the last quarter within a minute, and another three minutes later before a goal from substitute Christian Salem and two behinds levelled the scores.
The sides kicked another goal each, and Melbourne went in front with a point before the Bulldogs retook the lead from a controversial free-kick in front of goal. Midfielder Matt Jones had a chance to put his side back in front at the 26 minute mark but missed a goal on the run and the Bulldogs kicked two late goals to make the result safe.
