Half-forward flanker who came to the club through the Scholarship Squad, played Under 19s in 1976 and debuted in the opening round of 1977. He became the first Scholarship Squad player to graduate to the seniors. He had a delayed start to the 1980 season due to a knee injury suffered in a practice match but still managed 15 matches.

Moir trained with Hawthorn in the 1982 pre-season, and after first rejecting a move to WAFL side Perth, then playing with Prahran in 1982 he was traded to North Melbourne in a straight swap for Rodney Wright at the end of the season. He didn’t manage a game for North and went back to Beaumaris in 1986. In 1989 he played for Queensland side Sunshine Coast.

Moir's nephew Jayden Hunt joined Melbourne in 2014.
