After starring in a representative game before the 2013 National Draft, Hunt was chosen as a midfielder/half-back with Melbourne's last selection.
Given the same number as his ex-Demon uncle Andrew Moir, Hunt failed to play a senior match in his first season. He appeared seven times for Casey Demons in the VFL before a back injury ended his season. Hunt debuted in early 2016, quickly finding a permanent spot for his dashing runs from half-back.
He became a regular in 2017, playing every game, before a disappointing 2018 season. Injury and form issues restrict him to six games, and only one after Round 7. In 2019 he was converted into a forward, having immediate success with three goals against Essendon in Round 3, and kicking 21 for the year but tailing off in the second half of the season. He was out of favour for much of first and last appearances of the year.
Moved back into defence in 2021, Hunt was one of the hard luck stories of Melbourne's run to the premiership. He played every game of the season before suffering an ankle injury in Round 23. Unable to make it back into the side for the Qualifying Final, he was forced to watch his side win the flag from the sidelines. He was a regular in defence in 2022, playing 20 games, including both his side's finals. At the end of the season he agreed a three year deal to join West Coast as an unrestricted free agent, with Melbourne receiving 2022 National Draft selection #52 as compensation.
Hunt represented Melbourne in the 2014 and 2017 Grand Final Sprint, finishing 4th both times.
