After four straight losses, Melbourne survived a fourth quarter scare from the Giants to get back on the winners' list. They had been forced to field an injury replacement player for the first time since 2020, with ex-Collingwood and Richmond player Sarah D'Arcy elevated from Casey Demons into the starting lineup. The sides had been evenly matched in the first half, but Melbourne took their chances better and had what looked like an unassailable lead midway through the third. Then, after two recent scoreless fourth quarters, they looked to have stopped dead again, allowing the Giants to get within two goals late in the final term before the best-on-ground Kate Hore set up Megan Fitzsimon to bounce through the sealer.
Best were Hore, Hanks and Gillard. Colvin was concussed.
