In a battle with a fellow top four aspirant, Melbourne put on the sort of clinical defensive display that was lacking in their high scoring loss to the Western Bulldogs a week earlier. Aided by rain, they kept the Dockers to their lowest score in matches between the clubs, and went on to an easy victory.
Best were Viney, Petracca and Fritsch. Lever injured his ankle. Kade Chandler was unused substitute. Kysaiah Pickett was fined $1000 for staging.
