Equal biggest loss in Round 11
The Demons season went from bad to worse with their second consecutive thrashing, at least unlike the week before they managed to keep it under a hundred points - but only just. It left the aggregate losing margin of their previous two games at 201 points.
Peter Moore won the majority of the hit-outs in the middle but Hawthorn sharked nearly every contest and continually won the ball out of the centre. Even when the Demons did go forward it was wasted by their lack of a functioning forward structure.
Four, seven and 10 goals in front at the first three changes the Hawks eased away to an easy victory which left the Demons above only the hapless, winless Saints on the ladder. Coach John Northey had launched a stinging attack on his side after the Carlton defeat, but he was more forgiving on this occasion, saying "I was reasonably pleased with the way players put in all day. We just did not have the experience out there".
Best were Jarrott, Healy and Newport. Steve Turner was reported for striking Gary Buckenara with a right elbow to the head during the third quarter and was suspended for two matches.
