The half-forward was a regular in his first two senior years before falling out of favour, appearing just ten times over his last two years with the Demons.
Dickson was one of three Melbourne players sent to the Brisbane Bears at the end of 1986. He played in their first VFL match and remained with the Bears until the end of 1989. After his football career ended, Dickson stayed in Queensland, later serving as CEO of the Gold Coast City Council.
His uncle Des played for Hawthorn.
