On the return of premiership star Luke Jackson in his new colours, the Demons sides stayed close together for the first two and a half quarters before Fremantle got the last three goals of the third quarter to open a 15 point lead at the last change. Melbourne got within a kick twice in the final term but couldn't overhaul the margin and went down to a second successive defeat.

Best were Petracca, Gawn and Brayshaw. James Jordon replaced Kade Chandler in the fourth quarter.

The teams played under the indigenous names Narrm and Walyalup respectively.
