Originally recruited by St Kilda after kicking 176 goals for Wallan in 1973, Wood was swapped to the Demons along with Graham Scott in a trade for Paul Callery. He was intended as a solution to a forward line that struggled for goals, but was too light to be a league full-forward and spent most of 1974 playing on the wing.
Remained on the list in 1975 but failed to play a game and joined Woodend in 1976.
