Originally recruited by St Kilda after kicking 176 goals for Wallan in 1973, Wood was swapped to the Demons along with Graham Scott in a trade for Paul Callery.
He intended to be a solution to a forward line that had struggled for goals but from his first practice match he looked too light to be a league full-forward and never got his career in gear, spending most his time playing on the wing.
Remained on the list in 1975 but failed to play a game and joined Woodend in 1976.
