Melbourne racked up their eighth win to start the season after a strong first quarter against fellow top four aspirant St Kilda. The Saints rallied in the third quarter, cutting the margin to 22 points, and again in the last when they were within four goals entering time on, but had left themselves too much to do.
Best were Brayshaw, May and Langdon. Toby Bedford was an unused substitute.
