With only three wins for the season and no chance left of making the finals, the Demons played spoiler for Crows coach Robert Shaw as they delivered Adelaide's fifth straight loss.

Both teams were poor in the first half, and the Crows led by 19 points ten minutes into the third quarter before Melbourne launched a 14 goal to two avalanche to record their biggest ever win against the Crows - a record which would stand until 2011.

The next week police were forced to protect Adelaide coach Robert Shaw who had his house egged and car rammed.
