Milestones
First game and first goal
Tim Smith
Melbourne recovered from a slow start, and the loss of Max Gawn to a serious hamstring injury, to open a 15 point lead late in the third quarter before Geelong kicked two late goals. In their first ever meeting at Docklands the Cats then surged ahead and won the last quarter comfortably.
Best were Watts, Hunt and Jones.
