Melbourne's annual game in Alice Springs was greeted with unseasonable heavy rain, reducing the game to a slog. The inaccurate Demons were not helped by the loss of Bayley Fritsch to a foot injury in the first quarter, and could only turn 73 inside 50s into five goals. They were holding on late in the game until a long Giants kicked beat the back and rolled through for the winning goal.\
It was the lowest full length score Melbourne had lost to since Round 15, 1922.
Best were Viney, Hunter and Petracca. Jake Melksham replaced Bayley Fritsch (foot) in the first quarter.
