Returning from the week off for the bye after their win in Geelong, the Demons faced the in-form and second placed Eagles in Darwin. After conceding the first goal they kicked two in a row through Dawes and Tyson to take the lead, but West Coast held them at arms' length from then on.

A late flurry gave the Eagles a handy lead, and Melbourne never got within a couple of goals again in their second and last Northern Territory home match of the season. They went into the last quarter 20 points behind but ran out of gas rapidly in the last quarter and the Eagles kicked six goals to one to ease away to a significant victory.

Best were Watts, Viney and N. Jones. Alex Neal-Bullen replaced Angus Brayshaw early in the first quarter when Brayshaw suffered a head injury during an attempted tackle.
