Statistical categories led:
Biggest win against West Coast and at Casey Fields
Lowest score conceded
Needing a massive win to overcome Brisbane and finish top, Melbourne fell one point short despite a record win. After a slow start where they struggled to convert chances into goals on a windy Casey Fields, Melbourne slowly ran up the score against the hapless Eagles. Late goals put them within range of the required margin, but they were unable to force through the point that would have captured the minor premiership.
Best were Mithen, Paxman and Purcell. Tayla Harris was fined $400 for forceful front-on contact, and Shelley Heath was fined $400 for a rough tackle.
