In their only official pre-season game, the Demons suffered their first loss in any game since July 2021. They got off to a hot start with the first two goals, before Carlton took over in the middle of the ground and kicked the last five goals of the term. Melbourne failed to cope with a new rule intended to stamp out dissent against umpires, giving away eight 50 metre penalties for the game. The Blues extended their lead to as much as seven goals before stopping and allowing a comeback that left the Demons within a goal in the last minute. They couldn't kick the goal that would have pulled off an improbable win, falling five points short.
Best were Gawn, Fritsch and Oliver. Turner injured his foot.
