Melbourne win by 13 points
Goalkickers: Geoff McInnes 5, Mick Comber 2, Charlie Streeter2, Sharp 1, Roberts 1, Edward Henning 1
Geelong started the better side, dominating in the air and forcing the Redlegs to defend. Poor kicking nullified Melbourne's good work early in the second quarter, and they fell further behind.
The third quarter involved more wasteful kicking by Melbourne, with four behinds in a row before McInnes kicked three straight to cut the margin. A late Geelong goal kept them 16 points in front at the break, before Melbourne eventually got in front after bombarding their goal for the first half of the term.
Best were Green, Ryan and Streeter.
