Cleared to Melbourne in April 1932, McMahon spent most of his time with the club playing Seconds. In June 1933 he was was cleared back to South Melbourne in June 1933 but failed to add to the 19 games he'd played for them between 1927 and 1931, and joined South Melbourne Districts.
He later served on the South Melbourne committee and lived in Papua New Guinea.
