After initially being cleared to the Melbourne Seconds in April 1929 the grandfather of future AFL players Luke and Sam Power debuted as a half-back the next season. He had an up-and-down career, playing three seasons of six or less games interspersed with two years - 1931 and 1933 - as a semi-regular.

During 1932 he was twice refused a clearance to Collingwood, but eventually joined them in April 1935 and played three matches.
