Debuted for the Maroons in 1929 and played 18 games over two seasons. He had almost made the Collingwood list that year. He was the son of former Pies captain and President Jim Sharp.

Missed 1931 before being cleared to Melbourne the next season.

He did not play a senior game for the Redlegs before being cleared to Narrandera as playing coach early in the 1933 season.
