Played one game in his first season for Geelong and 30 over the next two before being cleared to Melbourne early in the 1913 season after appealing to the club to let him go because he had found work in the city.

Watt played 15 games as a half-forward/follower in his first year but failed to show the same form he had at "the Pivot" early in the season because of a leg injury. He managed just three more games in 1914 before being cleared to St Kilda midway through the year. He played five games with them before the end of the year but did not play on.

Enlisted in the Army in December 1915 and served in the Motor Transport Corps during World War I.
