The resurgent Demons registered their straight win, as David Schwarz returned to senior football just 16 weeks after his cruciate ligament surgery and booted a goal in the first minute to calm the nerves.

Collingwood had been badly handicapped by being reduced to 18 players early in the second quarter thanks to three injuries, but they battled bravely before finally being overrun in the last quarter.

Best G. Lovett, Stynes, Neitz. Jeff Hilton was reported for striking and suspended for three matches. Garry Lyon was replaced in the selected squad by Glenn Molloy due to a quad injury.

Despite making it through his comeback unscathed Schwarz reinjured the knee again the next week.
