Melbourne won to secure second place on the ladder and a home final, but not without a fight against opposition already eliminated from the top eight race. Playing to farewell multiple retirees, Geelong was the better side early and kicked the opening goal but failed to take advantage of their forward 50 dominance. Their first goal was cancelled out almots immediately when Ryleigh Wotherspoon intercepted a handball and kicked Melbourne's opener, leaving the sides on a goal each at quarter time. Each side had one goal in the second quarter, before Tahlia Gillard kicked her first career goal in 46 games to give her side a four point break at half time.
The game was won in the third quarter when Melbourne kicked five goals to two, including two for Eden Zanker, and a Goal of the Year contender by Kate Hore. Geelong fought out the game and cut the margin to 14 points, but they had given away too much ground before the final term.
Best were Hanks, Harris, and Zanker. Kate Hore left the game late with a head knock but was not concussed.
Melbourne's win set up a Qualifying Final in Victoria against Brisbane.
