One of the tallest players available in the 2021 Draft, standing at 190 centimetres, ruck/forward Gillard had a background in netball and softball. In 2021 she played for the Victorian Metro representative team. After three games in her first season she was moved into defence for the 2022 spring season. In Round 9, Gillard was nominated for the Rising Star award, and played every game for the season on the way to playing a starring role in the club's first premiership victory.
