After five wins in six weeks carried them back to the edge of the top eight, Melbourne kicked themselves into a loss with disastrous accuracy in their annual Alice Springs game. After conceding a four goal deficit at quarter time, the Demons were equal to their opponents in most elements of the game but continually missed shots on goal.
They were within range at three quarter time and threw Daniel Turner forward in an attempt to come from 17 points down but kicked 0.8 in the final term while the Saints ran away with the win.
Best were May, McVee, and Gawn.
Bailey Laurie replaced Aidan Johnson in the last quarter. Johnson was suspended for two matches for rough conduct. Kysiah Pickett was fined $3125 for striking.
