After comfortably winning their opening match, Melbourne travelled to play the side that knocked them out of the 2022 finals series. The Lions repeated the dose, with Max Gawn out of the game after a first quarter knee injury, they kicked four goals to end the quarter and set up a match winning lead.

The gap was still over five goals in the final term when the Gabba lights went out after a power failure. The game was halted for approximately 30 minutes, and when it restarted the Demons kicked four quick goals to get within 12 points. A late Bayley Fritsch behind left them within two straight kick but the visitors ran out of time.

Best were Lever, Oliver and Chandler. Steven May was replaced in the selected side by Adam Tomlinson. Jake Melksham replaced Gawn in the first quarter.
