Fremantle dealt Melbourne a 90 point defeat seven weeks earlier, but after two consecutive wins that put them back in the top eight, the visitors were expected to put in a better performance. Instead, for the second time at Perth Stadium in 2024 they were easily beaten by a Western Australian team.

Without Max Gawn, or any recognised ruckman, for a second game in a row, the Demons didn't have the same advantages of heavy rain and a dominant midfield that lifted them to a last-start win over Essendon. Freo dominated at stoppages, with Melbourne failing to register a clearance in the first quarter and their three for the first half was the lowest tally for any side since the statistic was introduced. The stoppage dominance only carried the Dockers to three goals, and a 21 point lead at quarter time.

It was Melbourne's third goalless first quarter since Round 9, but when Caleb Windsor kicked the first goal of the second quarter the margin was back to 14 points. It was as close as they got, conceding the next three goals. A quick double to Jacob van Rooyen late in the quarter reduced the gap to four goals again, before a Fremantle goal after the siren restored the 30 point lead. Freo kicked the first four goals of the third quarter, before Melbourne got the last three to go into the final term 36 points behind. The margin blew out to 67 points after the Dockers got six of the first seven goals, before three late consolations made the margin slightly more respectable.

Best were Jacob van Rooyen, Ed Langdon and Jack Billings. Billings replaced Koltyn Tholstrup in the third quarter. Alex Neal-Bullen was fined $1250 for umpire contact.
