After a one point loss the previous week, Melbourne (playing under the indigenous name Narrm) travelled to Perth expected to beat the improving Eagles. They put in a listless performance, not helped by losing Jake Lever to concussion when he was kicked in the head during West Coast’s second goal.
Without Lever, the visitors uncharacteristically struggled to contain the opposition forward line, and other than brief comebacks in the second and third quarter they never got close enough to seriously challenge and the Eagles ran out easy winners.
Best were Neal-Bullen, Pickett, and Oliver.
Taj Woewodin replaced Lever at quarter time. Harrison Petty was also assessed for concussion but cleared to return, and Jake Bowey injured his foot.
