After inaccuracy cost the Demons a week earlier, they set the tone with five straight goals in the opening quarter. Meanwhile, St Kilda lost three players to injury by quarter time but battled gamely until midway through the last quarter. A 15 point lead at the last change against a side with two less players on the bench should have made sure of victory, but it took 15 minutes to finally put the wounded Saints away and strengthen their grip on a top four spot.
Best were Petracca, Langdon and Neal-Bullen. Joel Smith replaced Harrison Petty (ribs) in the final quarter.
