After a scoreless fourth quarter in their previous game, Melbourne again struggled in attack early and only managed one goal from six scoring shots in the opening term. They started the second quarter 14 points behind, before six unanswered goals in 15 minutes of the second term put them ahead. They only kicked two more goals for the evening but held the lead until the final minutes, when Brisbane goalled after Alex Neal-Bullen was penalised for a deliberate out of bounds. Bayley Fritsch missed a snap that would have tied the scores and the visitors were unable to find another goal to win, dealing their finals hopes a major blow.
Best were Kysaiah Pickett, Jack Viney and Max Gawn. Kynan Brown replaced Harrison Petty (ankle) in the fourth quarter.
