Stung by criticism by Collingwood players after their Round 10 loss, and two straight games where they had scored under 60 points, the Demons put in a blistering second quarter and had extended the lead to 55 points before the Blues struck back. With five minutes to go a Steven Kernahan goal bought Carlton back to within one straight kick with two minutes left.
Two behinds extended the margin to a goal and despite the Blues furiously attacking in the last 90 seconds the Demons managed to keep them at bay - thanks in part to some shocking kicking for goal by Steven Kernahan - and hold on to win.
Brent Heaver kicked five goals on debut.
Best were B. Lovett, Johnson and Heaver. Flintoff suffered a strained hamstring.
