Recruited to Melbourne after 48 games with Port Adelaide, and 29 for Sturt (where his father had also played), Yeo crossed to Victoria midway through 1972. He impressed in the reserves, but after playing three of the last four games of the season he went overseas and ended his VFL career.

In 1975 Yeo, who who worked as a marketing and advertising consultant, was engaged by the club as its first fundraising coordinator.

After leaving Melbourne he moved to Noosa, Queensland where he suffered a serious injury in a freak accident. In 2002 he slipped on a polished floor and ran his head through a wall. He was not discovered for 26 hours, and was not initially expected to survive his injuries. The accident broke his neck and left him a quadriplegic. Yeo later worked as a consultant for the Brisbane Lions.

He married the sister of teammate Peter Sinclair, and his nephew Ben Sinclair debuted for Collingwood in 2011.
