Joined as a centre-half forward before switching into defence and making his debut in the last game of 1933.

After not being used for the entire 1934 season Harrison was allowed to cross to the VFA to join Oakleigh midway through 1935 on the condition that he would return when Melbourne required his services. He kicked 35 goals in 11 games, causing Oakleigh to initially refuse to clear him back to the Demons.

He eventually returned for two games and was then cleared back to Oakleigh for a second time in June 1936.

In 1939 Harrison moved to North Melbourne where he played the rest of his career.
